Since the last time we spoke, Metallica have played Disposable, Unforgiven, Justice, Memory, Clover, and Orion. Right now, the crowd is singing Fade To Black with James. Very cool to hear!
Sing it Stockholm!

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS yelled Stockholm back at James! Creep opened the show, then came Bellz, and now we have Ride Ze Lightning!

Heya Heya!
Just got back 1 hour ago! it was a fantastic gig! Like always I would say!
It was a pity that Patrik did not got a spare ticket there! They wanted more than 170 euros for the tickets!!! That was too expensive!
cheerz from Stockholm!

Review (sort of)
Posted: 7/12/2007 11:54:00 PM
- Posted by : Steffan, SW! Editor
...as some of the more eagle-eyed of you might have gleaned from the internet, your humble SW! editor has been out for the past few shows chaperoning a corking writer who will be scribing a detailed view of this "Sick Of The Studio 07" tour in a future issue of SW!
Tonight's gig in Sweden (at the Stockholm Stadion) is my last before going home (the crew, band, et al play Aarhaus in Denmark tomorrow) and I have to say, it's hard to argue with 35-40,000 crazy Swedes. It's even harder to argue with your tapping feet or bobbing head, and it's hardest-of-all to argue with the fact that the guys are both in a great groove AND still keeping things sharp, tight and intense.
I suppose it does a studio-saddled man good to get out in the world and realize that l-i-v-e is where the chops get re-hohned, the enthusiasm refreshed and where the old songs (the classics, the ones that gave you life for so long) can still invigorate and inspire both their creators and hungry fans.
How many times has 'Creeping Death' opened a show? I don't know exactly (how about 'a fuck of a lot?') yet the electric charge that opening riff has always given remains as pure and dangerous as ever, flame to gas, a wonderful caustic explosion to kick things off.
It makes me laugh y'know, it really
makes
me
fucking
laugh
when I hear people slag this band off as being 'elder statesmen' or 'old'... 'Disposable Heroes' requires the sort of energy 20-year old thrashers from the underground can't even display, yet Metallica simply make it part of their very tight, very precise and very inspirational sprint.
And the show, if not a sprint all the way, never lags, never waivers and never sees anyone looking for oxygen. As has been happening since last summer's shows, these gents are happier and more comfortable onstage than ever before. Having family out helps; all the stresses of traveling with kids and the missus are erased by the pleasure of having your loved ones out with you. It makes for less time spent worrying (and occasionally whining) about the minutiae of live spontaneous music, and more time simply enjoying the moment as you're in it, playing it, being it...
I really felt like running out top join the chaps up there for a bit of air-guitar riffery during 'Master Of Puppets' (a favorite of mine forever) and 'Whiplash' saw the audience reminded that Metallica will always have more energy than them...and of course'...Sandman' is undeniably good, but I have to say that seeing them finish with 'The Four Horsemen' and 'Whiplash' was just superb, men at the top of their game, unafraid to embrace their past, willingly throwing themselves head-first into it.
Sit back and think about it for a moment...two ripping, speedy oldies ENDING a two hour and twenty minute set. And remember, with Metallica there ain't electronics or samples, it's all 100% organic baby, fresh from the limbs, produced by muscles, sweat and occasionally some blood.
I wonder how they can possibly come down from nights like this...but I suppose it's easy. They're happy.
They're running at optimum speed.
They're on-top of their game.
And the families are around...and now, if you'll excuse me, it's time for a quick beverage...
Steffan,
SW! Editor |
