Metallica’s Lars Ulrich has been cast in an HBO movie alongside bona fide screen stars Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen. As reported by NYMag.com, the film, titled Hemingway and Gellhorn, will depict the stormy marriage between literary giant Ernest Hemingway and war correspondent Martha Gellhorn. Ulrich will assume the role of Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens. The casting of Ulrich marks the veteran drummer’s first substantial part in a feature film, although Ulrich did make a cameo appearance in the 2009 comedy, Get Him to the Greek.
It’s uncertain whether the making of the movie will conflict with previously-announced Metallica recording sessions, tentatively slated to begin in May. According to Ultimate-Guitar.com, guitarist Kirk Hammett has characterized the upcoming project as “not really 100 percent a Metallica record … without getting too deep into it, it’s more a recording project than a bona fide Metallica album." Based on Hammett’s comments, some have speculated that the band intends to make another covers album. |
