etallica bassist Robert Trujillo has confirmed that the metal legends are working on a new album.

"We're just blueprinting everything right now," Trujillo tells Rock Cellar Magazine . "There are a lot of ideas, a lot of song bodies, you gotta go through the process. For me personally I’m really excited about what we’ve been able to jam out."

The new album will be a milestone of sorts for Metallica -- it will be the band's tenth studio album. Their last record, 2008's Death Magnetic , debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 .

"Writing a Metallica song is a journey and a process, and it takes time," Trujillo says. "But that’s what’s special about it. Metallica likes to nurture a song, nurture an arrangement."

Metallica has been busy lately, having recently completed a week-long residency on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson . The band is also working on deluxe reissues of their first and second albums, 1983's Kill 'Em All and 1984's Ride the Lightning . If you've collected any cool Metallica memorabilia over the years, you may even be able to help them put everything together -- the band has asked fans to submit audio, video, photographs and other memorabilia for possible use in the re-issue packages.
