Gottfried Helnwein for Metallica's Cover-Artwork? |
|
Maybe a rumor, but it's quite interesting, someone postet this at the metallica board:

Hiya folks!!
A little self introduction first:
I work as a sound engineer/audio technician for a (sorta) large televison
station here in downtown. Being in this sorta business, ya get to
'fraternize' with others who are privvy to all sorts of information
regarding who's working on what and what it's going to sound like.
Suffice to say that, yes, you could say I'm 'in the know' when it comes
to these sorts of things. But I'm not going to go into my life story.
That'll do. I hear things from time to time.
And I've heard things about the new Metallica.
APPARENTLY
(but do not take this as gospel) the band are in talks with European
artist Gottfried Helnwein to do the cover for the new album, as he is
one of Lars' all time fave artists (being an.....ahem.....artist
himself).
For those not in the know, Helnwein is the guy that
did the cover for Manson's 'Golden Age Of Grotesque' - and actually
presided over Manson's wedding ceremony to that burlesque dancer.
here's his site:

Check
it out and see what you think. I HOPE they do decide to go through with
this, as Helnwein is a magnificent artist. VERY grim - would suit
Metallica just fine. I really liked the work that Serrano did on
Load/Reload, even though they are terrible albums. And I'm glad they're
going to go with another reputable artist.
And another thing
to whet yr collective appetites - apparently the band have employed the
work of a marching band as an into to one of their songs. Could be
interesting.
See ya!! |
