rooms, bedrooms, and basements. As many of you know, in our nearly forty years of touring, we’ve had a few mishaps along the way: broken bones, trashed appendixes, a pyro mishap, backs thrown out, crazy weather, food poisoning (beware of the oysters!), and even one way next-level anxiety attack! None of it has ever stopped us, but this is obviously a very different time, and leaving the house now literally means taking your life in your hands. Unfortunately, in these surreal times, that means we have to stay away from each other for the foreseeable future before we can start thinking about ‘Tallica Family reunions around the world.
We’re all putting safety first, self-isolating and socially distancing, but not forever! With that said, the South American shows originally planned for April are in the process of moving to December; Greta Van Fleet is going to stay on board to take this ride with us, and we’ll be hitting each and every city, but a few venues may have changed. We’ll be back later this week with the new dates and details about tickets, venues, and everything you need to know to help you make plans.
For those of you in the States, you know that we have some festival dates planned in May and unfortunately the news is not quite as good. With heavy hearts, we’re here to let you know that Epicenter in Charlotte, Welcome to Rockville in Daytona, and Sonic Temple in Columbus have all been cancelled. There is one bright note; Louder Than Life in Louisville (September 17-20) has ADDED a date and we’re excited that we’ll once again be able to partake in the festivities as we’ll be hitting the stage on Thursday, September 17th to kick off what will be four days of live music and good vibes. Additional headliners for the remainder of Louder Than Life will be announced at a later date. Please head over to DannyWimmerPresents.com for all the information. Details regarding refunds and exchanges for the May shows will also be available there starting Thursday, March 26th.
Finally, to our friends in Australia and New Zealand, please know that we have not forgotten and you’re still in our hearts and minds. We will make it to your part of the world as soon as we can. We promise!
We’ll sign off for now by sending you our love during these trying times. Here’s to looking back on this period soon with a renewed appreciation for all the amazing times together with our extended Metallica Family around the world. For now, go hang with your significant others, kids, pets, parents… whomever you have in your space. Create your playlists, watch some movies, try some old-fashioned board games, and most importantly, stay safe. We’ll keep in touch!

A Note from James 01.03.2020 18:30 Forum: Metallica News

Dear Metallica Family,

It pains me to write this, but I have to let all of you know that I cannot make it to Sonic Temple in Columbus and Louder Than Life in Louisville this year. As part of my continuing effort to get and stay healthy, I have critical recovery events on those weekends that cannot be moved. I apologize to all of our fans who have bought tickets for these festivals. We are working with the festival promoters to provide for refunds or exchanges. My intent with this statement is saying “I apologize” to each one of you. The reality is that I have not prioritized my health in the past year of touring and I now know that my mental health comes first. That might sound like a no-brainer for most of you but I didn’t want to let the Metallica team/family down and, I alone, completely compromised myself.

Looking on the brighter side, my therapy is going well. It was absolutely necessary for me to look after my mental, physical, and spiritual health.

I want to stress that the band will play all other announced 2020 shows.

I am looking forward to getting back to playing and seeing all our great South American fans in April. And, of course, playing Epicenter in Charlotte, Welcome to Rockville in Daytona and Aftershock in Sacramento. We will still play two unique sets at each of these festivals.

Beyond 2020, I am optimistic about the blessings I have been given and what the future brings. I appreciate all the great prayers and support from everyone since I went into rehab last September. Like the moth into the flame, being human in this career has its huge challenges and can be difficult. Your understanding helps the healing.

Ray Burton, R.I.P.

It is with incredible sorrow that we said farewell to Cliff’s dad Ray Burton last
week. For 38 years, we were lucky enough to have the energy, wisdom and
light of Ray in our lives. His eternal youth with his drive, positivity and
relentless smile were both incredibly powerful and stirringly honest. From coast
to coast and overseas too, Ray’s beaming face would regularly greet us,
offering warmth and anchor to our travels, and when it came to the entire
Metallica family, band, crew and fans, he viewed us all as his own. That he has
passed away leaves an indefinable feeling of sadness and loss, but equally, we
know Ray wouldn’t want us “moping around on our darn keisters” for too long.
So, in honor of him, and the kind of man he was, we also want to truly
celebrate the 94 years of life Ray gave everyone, knowing in certainty that a
glint of his light, wisdom and energy will always be with us all wherever we go.

We love you Ray,
Rest in peace

*****************************************************************

Mr. Ray Burton

Mr. Ray Burton is a hero of mine
In earthly form, his end of the line
He weathered many a difficult storm
A strong compass
true and gracefully worn
To his last breath, I’ve not met a more positive man
And to his son there was not a more loyal fan
So he leaves the material world to be with his sons and wife
I feel so very blessed to have had him grace my life
In earthly form, his end of the line
Mr. Ray Burton is a hero of mine

May peace be yours.

Love and Respect,
James

Ray...

Thank you for lighting up every room you walked into, for inspiring all of us
with your positive energy, your perseverance, your effortlessness and for
always making everyone feel comfortable in your presence... and of course,
thank you for giving the world the gift of Cliff and his unique talents. I’m
honored and humbled to have played and stood beside him.

Rest In Peace.

Lars

In my 55 years of existing on this earth I've met so many wonderful people,
and not so wonderful people.

In recent times, and most definitely since I've been in Metallica, I've been
asked who is an inspiration to me and/or who do I aspire to be like, and my
reply is, “I want to be like Mr. Ray Burton!” Ray is the father we all want, or
need to have; his positive energy, and support for how and what we do is a
powerful gift that he blessed us with.

Always smiling, and always telling it like it is; someone to learn from. Ray's love
for all styles of music was passion driven, telling me about various big band
jazz artists from his youth, sharing his thoughts on how and why these
musicians were so special. I'll always remember him telling my son, "You
practicing, you playing piano Tye, remember that's very important for your
music; Cliff played piano all the time."

My family, the Metallica family, and the world will miss Ray Burton, that goes
without saying. Ray was a warrior, and would want us to face life the way he
has, with that desire to be the best you can be from the inside out, stay
humble, and keep smiling!

We love you, and we will miss you Ray.

R.I.P

Robert

*****************************************************************

Lots of love Ray.
May you finally be with Cliff and Jan.

Australian Bushfire Crisis - Join Us in Supporting the Relief Effort 17.01.2020 13:58 Forum: Metallica News

We are totally overwhelmed by the news of the wildfires sweeping through millions of acres across Australia, with major impact in New South Wales and Victoria. The resulting destruction and devastating effects on all residents, animals, the environment and the incredible land in Australia is truly heartbreaking.

Please join us and do whatever you can to assist as we, along with our foundation All Within My Hands, are pledging A$750,000 to the NSW Rural Fire Service and to the Country Fire Authority in Victoria to aid in the relief efforts.

NSW RFS is the world’s largest volunteer firefighting organization and all funds donated during this State of Emergency are directed toward services related to and victims of these particularly destructive Australian bushfires.

CFA (Country Fire Authority) is a volunteer and community-based fire and emergency services organization which helps to protect 3.3 million Victorians, and works together with communities to keep Victorians safe from fire and other emergencies.

Lars Honors MTT On The Kennedy Center Honors 17.01.2020 13:57 Forum: Metallica News

Tune in Sunday night as Lars appears on the Kennedy Center Honors broadcast celebrating San Francisco Symphony Musical Director Michael Tilson Thomas’ creative achievements. As most of you know, MTT was a major driving force in the development and live performances of our recent S&M² shows at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

The annual event celebrates icons from film, television, music and other creative endeavors, who, through their artistry, have a lasting impact on our culture. In addition to MTT, this year’s honorees were Earth, Wind & Fire, Sally Field, Sesame Street and Linda Ronstadt; artistic luminaries who were part of the festivities included Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, David Foster, David Copperfield, Don Henley and many others. It was truly one of the highest honors for Lars to be a part of this very special event held in Washington D.C. last weekend.

Tune into CBS-TV this Sunday, December 15th, at 8:00 PM ET... and if you stay tuned for the last piece of the MTT celebration, you just may notice a certain Danish drummer during the musical number “I’ve Got Rhythm,” featuring Broadway superstar Audra McDonald on vocals.

We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.

As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.

We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can. Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows. We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family.

All tickets purchased to the shows in Australia and New Zealand, including Enhanced Experiences and Black Tickets, will be fully refunded.
