First day for Rock In Vienna, last stop on this leg of Europe. On the Soul Stage today we have A Caustic Fate, Three Days Grace Body Count, Faith No More, and Metallica will go on around 8:45. Right next door on the Midstage is Gojira, Testament, A Day To Remember, and Broilers.

We Love Vienna!

This was the 13th time that Metallica has played Austria since their first show here in 1991. Tonight's set ended with Creep and Sandman. Nothing was cut as the curfew was fast approaching. Setlist is up, pics to come...

Rock in Vienna @ Donauinsel Wien
For the final show of the first leg of our European Summer Vacation, we paid a visit to Vienna, Austria. This was our 13th gig here in Austria since first playing the country on September 11, 1991 during the Monsters of Rock tour with AC/DC and Mtley Cre. We last played Austria just last year on July 9, 2014 during the Metallica By Request tour. This was our seventh visit to Vienna.

Fuel kicked off the show which, if you can believe it, had never been played in Vienna before. For Whom the Bell Tolls, as it had at the previous three shows, followed.

We decided to give Metal Militia a rest today and decided to break out No Remorse instead. It was the first time that we had performed the song in Vienna and also the first performance of it in nearly two years. It was last played live on June 8, 2013 in Detroit, MI at Orion Music + More.

King Nothing was performed for the first time in Vienna in nearly 19 years. It was last performed here on September 6, 1996 during the Poor Touring Me tour.

Disposable Heroes had actually been played a couple times in Vienna over the years. It was first played here on June 26, 1993 during the Nowhere Else to Roam tour and last played here on July 5, 2007 during the Sick of the Studio tour.

The Unforgiven II, of course, hadnt been played in Vienna before but both Cyanide and Lords of Summer were played for the second time in Vienna. Cyanide was last performed here on May 14, 2009 and Lords of Summer was played here last year on July 9, 2014.

Sad But True followed with its sixth performance in Vienna and The Frayed Ends of Sanity was played here for the first time.

For the back half of the set, Damage, Inc. was rotated back in after two shows off. It had never been performed in Vienna before. Creeping Death was played here for the first time since 2007 (no really!). The remaining setlist staples including Fade & Seek (6 times) and One, Master, and Sandman (7 times) have enjoyed fairly constant performances here in Vienna over the years.

We performed 17 songs off of eight albums and one non-album track: Kill Em All (2), Ride the Lightning (3), Master of Puppets (3), And Justice for All (2), Metallica (3), Load (1), Reload (2), Death Magnetic (1), Non-Album Tracks (1)
