I'm your pain while you repay

Since Cyanide, we had Lords, and Sad (which has been played at every Munich show since 1991) and now Frayed is cranking out for the 3rd time ever. One with frickin laser beams is next!

May 31, 2015
Rockavaria @ Olympiapark Mnchen
OTHER ACTS
Faith No More, Kreator, Testament, Hatebreed, Exodus

For the second show of our short European summer tour, we found ourselves at the Rockavaria Festival in Munich, Germany. This was the eighth time that weve played in Munich. Our first gig here was on January 23, 1987 during the Damage, Inc. tour and our last visit was on May 6, 2009 during the World Magnetic tour.

We played five songs that had never been performed in Munich before and quite a few that hadnt been played here in over ten years.

"Fuel" opened the show. Its only the third time weve played "Fuel" in the opening slot and the song was last performed in Munich nearly 11 years ago on June 13, 2004. This was only the second time that "Fuel" was played in Munich.

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" followed and, like "Fuel" before it, hadnt been played here since that 2004 show on June 13. This was the seventh time that "Bellz" had been played in Munich after being performed here in 1987, 1988, 1991, 1992, 1996 and 2004.

After considering a couple different options for slot three, we decided to give "Metal Militia" another shot. This was the first time that the song was played in Munich and only the eleventh time that its been performed since 2004.

"King Nothing" was played in Munich for the first time in nearly 19 years. Its only performance here was on October 26, 1996 during the Poor Touring Me tour.

Both "Disposable Heroes" and "The Unforgiven II" remained in the set and both saw their first performance in Munich. This was "The Unforgiven II"s second appearance in our live set and only third live performance over all.

"Cyanide" was performed in Munich during our last visit on May 6, 2009 and "Lords of Summer" was played here for the first time.

"Sad But True" is a staple in the Munich setlists as it has been performed here at every show in the city since 1991 but it was followed by "The Frayed Ends of Sanity" which, like "The Unforgiven II," has only been performed three times since its release.

You can probably guess that both "One" and "Master of Puppets" have been played in Munich quite a bit. "One" has been played seven times here at every show since 1988 and "Puppetz" has been played at every single gig in Munich.

We switched things up in the Post-"Puppetz" slot, this time going with "Fight Fire with Fire." It was the first time that "Fight" was performed in Munich in 28 years! Its only performance here was on January 23, 1987. Its also the first time the song has been played in over year its last performance was on March 20, 2014 in Lima, Peru.

We swapped "Fade to Black" out for "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)." Despite regular performance over the years, this is the first time in over 22 years that "Sanitarium" was played in Munich. It was last played here on November 22, 1992 during the mammoth tour behind The Black Album.

"Seek and Destroy" closed out the main set again and the encore remained the same as it was in Gelsenkirchen. "Creeping Death" was performed for the seventh time in Munich, "Nothing Else Matters" for the fourth time and "Enter Sandman" for the fifth.

We performed 17 songs off of eight albums and one non-album track: Kill 'Em All (2), Ride the Lightning (3), Master of Puppets (3), And Justice for All (2), Metallica (3), Load (1), Reload (2), Death Magnetic (1), Non-Album Tracks (1)

Overall Munich Performances
First Time Played: "Metal Militia," "Disposable Heroes," "The Unforgiven II," "Lords of Summer," "The Frayed Ends of Sanity
Second Time Played: "Fuel," "King Nothing," "Cyanide," "Fight Fire with Fire"
Fourth Time Played: "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)"
Fifth Time Played: "Nothing Else Matters"
Sixth Time Played: "Sad But True," "Enter Sandman"
Seventh Time Played: "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "Creeping Death," "One"
Eighth Time Played: "Master of Puppets," "Seek and Destroy"
