Israeli Fans Triumph in Metallica Boycott

Fans of the heavy metal band Metallica have won their bid for cheaper concert tickets after they staged a boycott of the banda TMs 22nd May gig, which is due to take place in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Tickets were originally priced at upwards of $159 (£106, €117) for the Ramat Gan stadium show – the band’s first concert in Israel since 1999. But after more than 500 fans organised a boycot, using social networking site, Facebook, the promoters were persuaded to lower prices. Tickets should range from a low of $80 to a high of $160.

According to the creators of the Facebook page dedicated to the boycott, tickets for Metallica shows around the world were much less, while top tickets by other acts coming to Israel went for around $66 [£44, €49].

As of Wednesday (March 3rd), an agreement was apparently reached between fans and the promoter, with a proposal on the table that tickets should range from a low of $80 [£53, €59] to a high of $160 [£106, €118].

Fans Tomer Mussman and Rotem Horovitz wrote on Facebook:

"After a four-day campaign, tons of news items about us worldwide, over 6,000 supporters and numerous media interviews, we can say that we did it! We won! This afternoon, (we) met with Mr. Gad Oron, the promoter's representative, and reached an agreement about a significant drop in ticket prices."

Heard of that, but the front of stage tickets are still much too expensive. The funny thing on all that story is, the sonisphere in sofia has the same promoter as the show in tel aviv, and the most expensive tickets for sofia are 60 Euro, and there are even playing a lot of more bands.

So what's the reason then for the higher prices verwirrt

I guess they thought "why not set the prices incredibly high, people will pay them anyway cause metallica haven't been here in 11 years"

Well, it'd be a very weak reason. They would have done the same for us Hungarians or up there in the Baltics. I believe it's all about the event promoters.
