Teleprompter
When Metallica played in Berlins O2 world they played a set of new tunes and rare tracks. singer James Hetfield used a teleprompter during the whole concert, singing such classics like Seek & Destroy.
Teleprompters are not as bad as playback music but somehow pretty unusual in the world of heavy metal. The source of these pictures is the security camera of the arena. The camera operator zoomed in many details of the Metallica stage but this shot was the most interesting one. It was shown on screens in VIP lounges, not open for the public. One of the former employees of Universal records who used to work with Peter Mensch (Metallicas manager) stated that he is sure that Metallica did not know about this camera. Their management would never agree to show the signal to anyone but the security officials. This is not the downfall of James Hetfield as the singer in the worlds biggest metal band but might cause a smile among hard-liners.

I know that since almost a half year already, he uses them since the whole tour.
I don't think this is bad btw., many bands use such things..before that he had the lyrics on sheets on the floor, now they are on a screen. Doesn't make any difference for me.

Hehe, that's almost like 2 hour Karoake, with amazing rhytm guitars and audiences from 10000 to 80000.
I don't think that's a bad thing, especially for new and rarely played songs; it's better to take a look at it every now and then than singing sth like "exit light, enter *OMG, what was that again*".
btw, does he have these on every mic or just on one?
Posted by metalandi on 13.11.2008 at23:33:
He's got them on every one, otherwise he'd have a problem if he's standing on one side and forgetting a lyric, especially with the stage in the middle which has a lot more space to move

It's not a bad thing, it's actually pretty cool and you guys are right

i don't gve a fuck about it
hetfield will always be our heavy metal god...better watch for some lyrics on a screen than forget them during sininging the song like some other heavy metal poser frontmans did!!

I noticed he forgets the lyrics most often on the cover songs and on the more famous ones, so they shouldn't play these, hehehe
Posted by preinzi on 14.11.2008 at15:42:
as long as he remembers all the guitar riffs i dont care
but why does he still need the tracklists?^^
Posted by metalandi on 14.11.2008 at15:45:
Do you mean setlists or lyricss? setlists have always been attached to the floor, every band does that, otherwise it happens that the drummer starts phantom lord and the other guys sad but true, as at the fillmore 2003
Posted by preinzi on 15.11.2008 at17:04:
i meant setlist of course
they could replace them with monitors too..
Posted by metalandi on 15.11.2008 at17:05:
Would be possible, but it would be a problem then if a staff guy gives the setlist to you after the gig
